Williams Senior Management Team along with Dickie Bird

On Thursday 9th October, Susan Battersby and Tony Searles were very proud to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dickie Bird at the St John Charity Sports Ball held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.  This award was sponsored by Williams Fasteners as the directors thought the meaning behind the award reflected the philosophy of our company.

Williams Fasteners were founded in 1870 in Sheffield, and in 2005 underwent a management buy-out by the directors.  Over the last three years the directors have concentrated on improving staff motivation and customer service and as a result of this have seen the business improve and grow in a very short time.

Tony says, “we understand the importance of customer service as it is through our excellent quality and service record that our customers keep returning.  We are proud of our heritage and being part of Sheffield’s history and although many new businesses are being recognised for their commitment to the area, we feel it is important to recognise those that have been trading for a long time and have gained success through hard work, knowledge and understanding.  It is therefore apt that we sponsor the Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of a sporting person who has achieved much but also cares about the community and how they can help others to achieve their goals.  That is what Williams Fasteners is all about, supporting our staff in development and building relationships with our customers and suppliers.”

Dickie Bird fits this bill in every way possible and deserved to be the worthy winner.  When you consider his sporting career, his successful book publication, his charity work and the circuit of dinner speeches he is involved in, he has given back so much more to the public during his lifetime than most people can even dream of.

In addition to the sponsorship of the award, and attending the glittering ball which celebrated sporting hero’s from all walks of life, including those behind the scenes from the public and St John Ambulance, Williams Fasteners were also the successful winners in the auction for Johnny Nelson’s belt, awarded for winning the WBF Cruiserweight title 1993 in Melbourne, Australia.

All money raised on the night through auctioning of sporting memorabilia and the raffle went to St John Ambulance.
